A very long time ago, the Celts lived in the west of Europe. In their calendar, the end of October was terrible because days are cold and night comes very quickly. The bad season of winter (cold, dark, no food, etc) is here. Celtic people in Ireland, Scotland, or Britanny imagined the spirits or ghosts of their ancestors came at night to frighten them...

 

 

 

 

Celtic people dressed up at Halloween time ( "Halloween" = "Evening of all the souls" ) in frightening costumes. The spirits of the ancestors were afraid and didn't come...
