The "slave-trade": Boats left Europe with cheap things (=trinkets) and they exchanged them against Black slaves on the African eastern coasts. This trade was interesting for African leaders who got articles they didn't have in Africa.

The crossing of the Atlantic to go to America was very often terrible for the slaves. They were packed in the boats (see pictures) with no hygiene and little food. The crossing was long and sometimes with bad weather. White people punished the slaves or sometimes inflicted very bad treatments. Black people were considered like objects or things, but not humans.
