Europe was a poor continent in the 19th century. There were wars, revolutions, diseases or poverty. Many good reasons to leave Europe and try to "make it" (=to become rich) in America. Immigrants arrived in the east and many, in convoys of covered wagons, went west. But it was dangerous with the Indians...

How could the Indians resist? The very first Natives were destroyed by diseases, firearms or alcohol.

In the 19th century, covered wagons came and later the trains with more big towns.
