The two communities (=Catholics and Protestants) in Northern Ireland's capital don't live together. There are Catholic areas and Protestant areas. People have been living separated since the 1960's, when the "troubles" (= the problems between the two groups) began.
In many areas, people live with their friends and paint "murals" to show the other group what they think and who they are. On the picture, it is a Unionist area: people want the union with London, they are Protestants. The red, white and blue colours are the ones on the English flag.
An ordinary view in Belfast: soldiers on patrol on the streets with people who walk near them. There are helicopters that fly day and night over the town. Soldiers are here to show Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.

In Belfast (or everywhere in Northern Ireland): two communities that live apart and ignore the other community.
