An old country with an age-old history.

If you go to the west of Ireland, on a small island ( the only obstacle for the strong Atlantic winds), you will see Dun Aengus. It is an old prehistoric monument. How old is it? Archeologists don't want to say, but it is older than the pyramids in Egypt.

On the pictures, you can see Newgrange: an ancient prehistoric monument (it was rebuilt to show tourists). It is as old as monuments in the south of England (in Stonehenge) and monuments in Brittany, France. At the prehistoric period, people came to the British Isles and built vast monuments. What were they used for? Archeologists are sure they were for the prehistoric people's religion: the monuments were probably linked with the sun and the moon.
