Australia is the biggest island
and the smallest continent in the world! Its capital city is Canberra, but its
largest city is Sydney. Most people live near the sea, on the coast in the south
east.
Australia
is a very old continent. Its flora (= plants) and fauna (= animals) are unique,
because the Australian continent separated from the rest of the world millions
of years ago.
In the
very middle of this big continent stands the biggest rock in the world: "Uluru".
It is about 60 million years old!! Uluru
(or : "Ayers Rock" in its White people's name) is visited by many
tourists every year. This rock is sacred to Aborigenes.
